Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?

I'm a very amateur mechanic. I replace things like spark plugs, alternators, starters, maybe a water pump when it breaks. I think I need new tie rods on my 95 Ford Ranger, but I'm not sure I'm up to the job. How hard is it?Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?Yes you can, also depending how rusty and gunked up are they. You might bust a knuckle or too.

Replacing the tie rods is not hard, it can be done in a couple of hours. However, you will need to get it aligned again. Changing the tie rods changes the alignment of the front end.Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?not too bad if you have the tools to do it but either way you should probably get it aligned after the repairCan an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?
it's pretty easy to change the outer tie rods on your truck, however, you WILL need an alignment after you're done - make sure you're near a shop that can do the alignment for you, because you'll be shredding your tires all the way there. Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger? Its fun to read about all the wannabe's out there. You didn't say inner or outer.Different operations. I'm pretty damn sure your Ranger has rack and pinion steering rack which have both inner and outer tie rod ends. find out which ones are bad. More than likely its the inner which means taking loose the outers to replace the inners. recommend to Buy and Read the repair book on your truck before you start. Can an amateur mechanic replace the tie rods in a Ford Ranger?
yes, the best thing for you to do is count the threads on each end and put the new ones on just as the old ones were then go straight to alignment shop Good Luck
It is real easy to do, as you are removing them, count how many revolutions it takes to take them out then replace them with that many turns. That will get you in the same proximity of the old ones, then yes you need to get an alignment.
