Can the ford sync system be installed on any car?

I have a 2003 ford explorer sport trac and i have been hearing alot about the ford sync system. My question is, can i buy the sync system and have it installed on my truck? Can the ford sync system be installed on any car?No it cannot, as it now stands. The SYNC system is EXCLUSIVE to the vehicle it is installed in. The entire SYNC system consists of the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module), the audio unit, steering wheel controls, and the data link access for self-diagnostic purposes through both the MS-CAN and HS-CAN networks, which are tied in to the vehicle's VIN. That being said, who's to say that there won't be such a system available in the aftermarket, in the near future, if the demand calls for it?Can the ford sync system be installed on any car?Ford Girl skipped a component or two, but is entirely correct in her answer. There may be an aftermarket kit available soon, but it is unlikely to have all the options Sync does. Sync is actually pretty slick! Your vehicle doesn't have the technology to make Sync work. Can the ford sync system be installed on any car? From the sync classes I've taken, Basically it's tied into the vehicle electronics and the stereo system. Most 08s that are getting the Sync already have new stereos that aren't backwards compatable .

There maybe some offers to add sync, but not all the way back to 2003. My guess is 2007 on the sport tracs as the stereos are actually totally different (made by two different companies and bolt differently) and most of sync links up with the car stereo

But Bartzan and Ford Girl are both correct also
