Today my brakes went out on the highway. When I realized my parking brake was on ad took it off, my brakes seemed to work fine. Do these two have any affect on eachother in a Ford Taurus?Does the parking brake affect the regular brakes on a Ford Taurus? It shouldn't, the emergency brake only operates on the rear wheels, and is applied mechanically by pulling a cable when you depress the emergency brake pedal. On the service brakes, they are operated hydraulically when you press the brake pedal.Does the parking brake affect the regular brakes on a Ford Taurus?
no,,the regular brakes are hydrolic and the emergancy brake is cableDoes the parking brake affect the regular brakes on a Ford Taurus?Do you have rear disc brakes or drums?
With rear discs, there is a little drum brake system in some that is rather strange for parking brake applications. Could be that was on and effecting hydraulic pressure in your brake system. Other wise, I don't know. That's a strange one.Does the parking brake affect the regular brakes on a Ford Taurus?
thats a good way of burning the brakes up. all the parking brake is for, is when your parked, the other brakes are for slowing down and stopping.Does the parking brake affect the regular brakes on a Ford Taurus?Yes. The parking brake works by mechanically actuating the rear brake calipers. When it is applied your rear brakes are on. This can overheat the rear brakes and fluid leading to brake "fade" or even complete failure. In your case though I suspect what happened was that with the rear brakes already partially applied mechanically they provide no additional braking when you push down the pedal. This effects brake balance and stopping distance.
