What kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?

I don't like my current stock in-dash stereo. I want to upgrade, but I have no idea wheere to begin. The slot where it fits seems much larger than the size of the stereos i see when i look for some online. Is there a compatibility number i can use to search with? Can anyone recommend a good product for my '97 Ford Explorer, or even a good website to buy one. Please don't just leave a website, please only respond if you can answer my original question. Thank You!What kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?you can get any stereo. Custom stereos all are smaller, so they fit. With all of them, you have to get an installation mounting kit thing and wireing harness also. It's not as complicated as it sounds. You can get these things at Walmart and many other places. What kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?
personally i still have the factory radio in my 1998 but what i did was i put new speakers in the doors and got me a 500 watt amp and my music blows i did have the same problem you are having and it will become very frustrating after a while you can get a dash board kit to make any radio fit so the size of the radio you see really does not matter but those dash board kits make your dash look horribleWhat kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?Go to a Audio Shop and ask them to show you the most reasonable price, let them know you want a good brand.

Once you get your stereo, then replace your speakers

with the same brand as your stereo so it'll sound right.

Now it is up to you if you want to put some bump into

your car, that will cost a little more, but it is worth the price.

Purchase one thing at a time and don't worry about the space

they'll have something for that too. Don't forget by the time you

purchase everything you will have the sound you been waiting

for. Good Luck!!. I am doing the same thing I purchased Pioneer

speakers for the back, then I went back and got the front. Now I

need to go back for my Stereo and face to cover up the hole.

Then the boom box will come later. one thing at a time. I just

told the guy that I couldn't purchase everything at once and he

give Me a quote for the stereo and face and amp., boom box.

Like I said it's going to cost you once you all add it all up but it is worth the good sounds. What kind of stereo can i get for my 1997 Ford Explorer?

Go to www.crutchfield.com. Its where i went to get an upgrade for my 2000 explorers radio. Just decide exactly what features you want and your price range and it will be a piece of cake. Crutchfield includes all the stuff you need to install yourself, which is what i did and its working great.
Check out www.crutchfield.com. Click on Car Audio and Video on the right side of your screen, then click on Find What Fits My Car also on the right side of your screen. It will ask you some questions about your car ( year, make, model, # of doors) and it should give you a list of all the radios they carry for your car. Also, if you buy from crutchfield they include a free wiring harness and dash install kit. You won't even have to cut your car's factory wiring harness!!
