Where did the leopard fur come from in Tom Ford's famous 1999 Fall Collection for Gucci?

It's no secret that Tom Ford's 1999 fur collection put Gucci back on the charts in terms of celebrity fashion status, but where did all the fur come from? For example, one of the most iconic pieces was a fox and leopard coat. Aren't leopards endangered? I can't believe Gucci would've purchased poached fur.
