Reason for wanting to become Police Officer:
As a kid, I was bullied by a racist kid (I'm asian) and it has been continuing until Grade 9, where I finally brought the harassment to a halt. I want to become a Police Officer because I want to prevent and stop these kind of things from happening in our society, bring justice to and protect others. Can I be a police detective and is the job right for me?
Sorry to break this to you pal, but none of the crap that you mentioned there really makes any difference.
To become a detective, you have to first get hired as a police officer. That involves passing competitive written and oral examinations and successfully clearing physical, background, credit and psychological checks. If you score high enough, and qualify, you get to go to the academy which can last anywhere for 4 to 6 months. If you get through the academy, and your probationary period, and work a number of years as an exemplary patrol officer, you might be lucky enough to apply for a detectives position, according to your department's regulations.
Your fascination with guns, video games, fantasy things and bullying make me very, very skeptical that you would make it past the psychological part of the process.
Just to let you know where I am coming from, I have been a police officer since the early 70s, and in my career did hundreds of applicant background investigations. I would find someone like you to be a dangerous applicant, and someone who I would not be inclined to recommend.
Isnt there anything else you can contribute to the world? Can I be a police detective and is the job right for me?
Sounds good to me. You need to be a Police Officer for a couple years before you can apply to be a detective.
Finish high school well.
Go to College for 2-3 years or University.
Do not take criminal justice . the Police like a well rounded applicant who has a back up plan.
No criminal record.
Apply to a Police Force.
Go through the application/testing process.
If accepted they will send you to the Police Academy of their choice.

this is so cliche that people tend to not believe it.
but you really, really can do anything you want to as long as you try hard.
your characteristics you describe about yourself imply that you'd be an ideal candidate! go for it.
also i really respect and admire your reasons for wanting to become a police officer. it's a good reaction towards being bully, to help others, rather than a lot of people who want to inflict the same pain they felt. Can I be a police detective and is the job right for me?
You can try! You sound good for the job! You understand what you're getting yourself into, and you know what your doing. Your also good with a gun!
Email me for a little tip i learned from an officer (;
It'll help, trust me.
Hope this helped!鈾モ櫏
You are too young to make an effective police detective.
It's best to not pursue a career because you are a crusader with a chip on your shoulder. Too many cops became cops because they were picked on. These cops tend to be very ineffective in actually solving crime, but very effective in degrading the image of police in general as they also tend to have a "power trip" mentality.
Grow up and develop some personal character, learn how to deal with people for yourself, then choose whether or not you will make a good police detective.
You're still young and have plenty of time to make a decision. Being a police officer, in my opinion, is the best job in the world. It's not easy but I love it! Some of the things you listed are good characteristics and others are completely irrelevant to the job. Your reason for wanting to be a police officer can be good or very bad. Before you make your final decision, make sure that you don't want to be a cop because you want revenge for being bullied for 5 years. Very few officers become officers because of that reason but the few that do are not very good police officers and make us all look bad. Make sure this is really what you want to do and make sure it's for the right reasons. No matter what you decide, I wish you the very best of luck!
