Help on essay for the definition of a Hero?

This is an essay i wrote for LA block any suggestions its due tomorrow

Simple as a Dollar

A hero. Let me guess, you just thought of superman, batman or spiderman. Sure, they are heroes. But they are not the only heroes. Many people cant see past that fog to the real heroes. Heroes are selfless. Every second of the day, people are out their risking their lives so that we can have a happy life. Soldiers are taking bullets and Firefighters are being burned to death saving us. Even your mom is a hero in some ways. Without her there might be no dinner on the table or clean clothes in your closet. You might even be a hero. When you walk down the street and see a beggar, most turn there noses and walk away. But some take the time and money to give one dollar to the poor man. One dollar. To you its just another thing of the past within 20 seconds, but to him it is a life saving meal to his starving son that gives him the strength to live just a little longer. Just because of one dollar.

A really good example of a hero would be Olivia Bouler, an 11-year old girl who paints pictures of coastal birds to raise money. Olivia has painted hundreds of pictures of birds. With this money wildlife protection can be supported and animals that covered in oil can be cleaned. This makes her a hero considering that she could be spending her hours with her friends and having sleepovers, but she is so selfless that she is giving up some of that so she can do what she believes is right. She cares more about the well being of animals then her free time.

“Love Triumphs: 6-year-old Becomes a Hero to Band of Toddlers, Rescuers” is a perfect example of heroism. Deamonte Love was a 6 year old who guided 6 children to safety after Hurricane Katrina. What really represents heroism is that he did it without thinking. He did what he thought was right and without him those children probably wouldn’t of survived. Deamonte was doing all he could at that age before his mind had been filled with the greed that is common today. Even his own father cares less about him self and more about others as stated in the following quote. “ I told them to go ahead and give them up because me, I would give my life for my kids. They should feel the same way,” said Love, 48 SB pg 30. Such powerful love is given in that quote for his children that he believes that they are more valuable than him. This is yet another act of selflessness in a single article, which can be very rare to find.

Cancer has probably affected all of us. Anybody who reads this will see that dreaded word and someone will pop into their mind. For me that is my Opa, Granddaddy and Tag Giacalone. Tag was a boy who I have known now for 6 years. In the first grade, my first year in America, I noticed on the first day of school that he was bald, but nobody really mentioned it. We never really became friends but he was always happy, friendly and would share his crayons, which at the time was a big deal. Tag would play games on the blacktop like the rest of us and climb on the monkey bars. One day though he was gone. That day turned into a week. That day Ms. Finley told the class he was taking a break because he had leukemia. Leukemia. It was stunning because he acted like nothing was wrong. In the movies people with such condition were grumpy and didn’t do much. It never dragged him down. He demonstrated that he could fight the disease and not give in. He was a hero to us all. Soon he came back to class. His hair started to grow back, which I found out was black. We always remembered him as a boy who never let it drag him down, who kept fighting until the end with a smile on his face.

Heroism is defined in the dictionary as “ the qualities or attributes of a hero or heroine”, but it is much more than that. It is being selfless and caring. People use the word lightly. They say that some famous football player who scored some “lifesaving” touchdown at last nights game. Sure they just made football history, but down to the core, were they really doing anything for the benefit of others? You don’t have to kill Osama Bin Laden or land a crashing plane after geese fly into the engine, you just have to do what is right and put others before yourself without doing it for the fame and glory. It could be just a volunteer firefighter or maybe that one old jumper that you don’t want anymore. But sometimes its just that one dollar that makes you a hero in the smallest way.Help on essay for the definition of a Hero?
i saw a cartoon years ago in which one soldier is shooting another.

the caption read: "how many heroes are there?"

both soldiers will be called "heroes" but that's BS

one is dead the other a murderer.

there are no heroes in an illegal war.

there are no heroes in a FAKE terrorist attack.
